1. Product Information
Definition: It is a mixture formed by dissolving sodium bisulfite in water. Sodium bisulfite itself is an inorganic compound that can only exist stably in solution; it is extremely unstable in solid form at room temperature. Its aqueous solution has strong reducibility.
Chemical Formula: The chemical formula of sodium bisulfite is NaHSO₃, so the core solute of sodium bisulfite solution also has the formula NaHSO3.
Molecular Weight: Calculated based on the chemical formula of the solute sodium bisulfite, its molecular weight is 104.06.
CAS NO.: 7631-90-5.
Common Specifications: There are various common specifications. Reagent-grade solutions are available with mass fractions of 1%, 5%, 9%, etc. Industrial-grade solutions mostly have a mass fraction ranging from 30% to 40%. In addition, analytical-grade solutions are also available, suitable for laboratory use and small-batch industrial applications.

Storage Conditions
It should be sealed and stored in a cool and well-ventilated environment. Avoid prolonged contact with air to prevent the solute from being oxidized to sulfate. Meanwhile, keep it away from strong oxidants, strong acids and other substances. Small volumes of reagent-grade solution can be stored at room temperature, with a storage period generally not exceeding 6 months.
2. Physical Properties
Sodium bisulfite solution is mostly a colorless to pale yellow liquid; some high-concentration solutions may be slightly turbid. It has a faint sulfur dioxide odor, with a density of approximately 1.48g/cm³. The solubility of the solute sodium bisulfite in water can reach 42g/100ml at 25℃. The aqueous solution is acidic, with a pH value of about 4.5 at 20℃. It is prone to decomposition upon heating and releases sulfur dioxide gas.
3. Main Applications
● In the Food Industry
It can be used as a preservative to extend the shelf life of dried fruits, fruit juices and other products. It also serves as a bleaching agent and color fixative to inhibit browning during the drying process of fruits and vegetables. Additionally, it is applied in winemaking to prevent oxidation and enhance the stability of wine.
● In the TextileIndustry
It is used for bleaching cotton fabrics, which can improve whiteness without damaging fiber strength. In the papermaking industry, it acts as a lignin remover to enhance paper quality. In the fields of electroplating and wastewater treatment, it can improve electroplating effects and reduce heavy metal ions such as chromium in wastewater.
● In the Pharmaceutical Field
It can be used as an intermediate in the production of drugs such as metamizole sodium. In laboratories, it is employed to prepare buffer solutions and can also be used to remove excess stains from sections. In power plants, it is also used for flue gas desulfurization and removing residual chlorine from wastewater.
4. Packaging Specifications
There are various packaging options for different application scenarios. Reagent-grade small-volume solutions are commonly packaged in 100mL or 500mL glass bottles. Industrial-grade large-batch solutions are packaged in 25kg plastic barrels; in some large-scale production and transportation scenarios, 1000kg large packaging barrels are also used, along with ton-level packaging suitable for large-volume industrial transportation.
5. Core Advantages
● It has high reaction activity.
As a reducing agent, it can quickly react with substances such as sulfur dioxide and heavy metal ions, enabling efficient achievement of treatment goals in both flue gas desulfurization and wastewater treatment.
● In terms of cost, its raw materials are widely available and the production process is simple.
Compared with similar treatment reagents and additives, it is more cost-effective, which can reduce the production or treatment costs of various industries.
● It has an extremely wide range of applications, covering food, industry, medicine, laboratories and other fields, and can play a stable role in different scenarios.
For example, it can be used for food color retention as well as industrial wastewater purification.
● In addition, it causes little damage to target objects during use.
For instance, it will not damage fiber strength when used for cotton fabric bleaching, and can well retain the original flavor of food when used as a food additive in appropriate amounts.
